Food and Your Skin

There is a direct relationship between what you put into your body and what shows up on your skin. What you eat feeds your skin. Thus it makes sense that by choosing your foods with your skin in mind, you can actually alter and help the condition of your skin. For example, everyone should drink a lot of water each day. It is not only good for your system, it helps keep dry and dehydrated skin moist. If you have truly oily skin, I would not eat foods with a high oil content. These include all fried foods, creamy salad dressings and sauces, avocados, olives and the like. Healthy foods to concentrate on include vegetables, fruits and citrus juices.

If your skin is dehydrated, swallowing a tablespoon of mineral oil every day and eating nutritious foods high in oil (like avocados) will help. (But be wise-I don’t eat mayonnaise because it is pure fat, but I do put it on my face to counteract the dryness of my skin.) Taking vitamin E may also help to lubricate your skin. Be sure to drink water, but stay away from caffeine, as it is a diuretic and will only further dehydrate your system.

For everyone, eating good, balanced meals helps develop a well-balanced skin because diet directly affects its texture and tone. Make a point to eat foods like bran which can help to flush toxins out of your body and thus clear your skin. Avoiding crash diets and harmful extremes of any kind will greatly help to keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
